In consultation with Southampton City Council and the venue's management, Technical Alarm Systems has installed a new voice alarm system at the Quays Eddie Read Swimming and Dive complex.
A sigNet Integrity voice alarm was specified for the £10m site - one of Southampton's biggest tourist attractions - its flexibility being a major consideration. It can be connected to virtually any manufacturer's fire detection system and also combines a voice alarm with a public address system.
The new system was interfaced to the fire alarm system and configured to broadcast a custom 'Alert' message to the whole site if a fire detector activates. It was also set to trigger 'Evacuate' messages to both poolside and dryside.
The system also has a zonal paging microphone at the reception desk for making announcements to any or all of the sites, plus an 'all call' emergency firefighters microphone fitted next to the fire alarm control and indicating equipment.
The Quays is a national centre of diving excellence and hosts a number of major televised competitions. A series of headset-type radio microphones - connected to the system via a local public address rack - allows coaching guidance and sports commentary to be broadcast at these events.
Further features are an audio routing matrix which routes different music to various areas of the complex, and the installation of C-TEC's Quantec addressable call system which functions as a pool alarm, emergency assistance alarm and staff attack alarm.
